If I move I remember…
Motion, like rhythm, is compelling. Motion is hypnotic, sensual, fun, exhausting & motivating. It is a viral and infectious, it connects to those around you in a away that transcends normal lines of communication. Movement can deliver you to a moment of true release: genuine and pure. A primal, natural, and truly expressive format. There are no words needed. No barriers to entry. Pulse, flow, rush, quickening. Your body keeping time.
Imagine motion as a memory, bringing you back to the track, the song, the gym, the game, the ride, the club and with it a return to that extreme memory your body has accepted and associates. Motion is a base level connection with universal interpretation. The powerful sub-conscious interplay between our physical action and mental recall is not restricted to the conditioning training employed by athletes or the intensive repetition of a dancer, it unanimous to us all in varying ways. It is built into our routines, rituals and shared experiences.
“BODILY MOVEMENTS CAN INFLUENCE THE RATE AT WHICH AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL MEMORIES ARE RECALLED AS WELL AS THE EMOTIONAL CONTENT OF THE MEMORIES”
We have inbuilt triggers, learned by rote, that influence our state of mind and reactions to our surroundings. We can evoke the past to enliven the now through simple gestures of the body. This may all seem highly theoretical but it is key to understanding the passion for what we do at Audience Entertainment. We strive to create conduits for the physical, emotional and content connections that we form when we move. We believe that a new category of immersive content, en masse, can be created through the combination of our movement and story.
If you invite me to move with the screen, what is on the screen must engage me, it must be good to look at. Anything on a big screen must look good . It has to be a committed piece of visual, visceral content with context that you will take away with you. The work should have engaged that motion expressive space within your super self that you will remember like the crash of ocean waves. You are in the noise of the wind, on the highway with the window rolled down. The white noise more like salt as it lingers..
We have known this since the 17th Century. The philosopher Benedictus de Spinoza stated:
“WHEN A NUMBER OF BODIES OF THE SAME OR DIFFERENT SIZE ARE DRIVEN SO TOGETHER THAT THEY REMAIN UNITED ONE WITH THE OTHER, OR IF THEY ARE MOVED WITH THE SAME OR DIFFERENT RAPIDITY, SO THAT THEY COMMUNICATE THEIR MOTIONS ONE TO ANOTHER IN A CERTAIN RATIO, THOSE BODIES ARE CALLED RECIPROCALLY UNITED BODIES (CORPORA INVICEM UNITA), AND WE SAY THAT THEY ALL FORM ONE BODY OR INDIVIDUAL, WHICH IS DISTINGUISHED FROM THE REST BY THIS UNION OF THE BODIES. (SPINOZA, ETHICS, P50)”
We respond to sensations, the soft pressure of the sonified ,visualized digitized media-sized flow. I move. I tap my foot to what pulses. I shimmy a bit to the resonance – like watching Michael Jackson gliding on You tube just for a quick jolt . I am forever deeply connected to the experience.
If I move I remember….
